Transporting Audiences for 20 Years

Since 1986, Intrepid Theatre has been bringing the best in live alternative theatre from around the world to Victoria - by producing the Victoria Fringe Festival, the Uno Festival of Solo Performance, and the Cheap Thrills and International Underground Series. At last, under the roof of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Intrepid Theatre has found a home: The Metro Studio.

Extending the System

Located at the corner of Quadra and Johnson in downtown Victoria, this former gymnasium (once known as the Metropolitan Hall) is being converted by Intrepid Theatre into a permanent, 200-seat performance venue. The Metro will be the flagship venue for Intrepid's festivals and presentations, but for most of the year will serve as an affordable, accessible, intimate rental venue, showcasing dozens of small independent performance companies from Victoria and beyond.

Stand Clear of the Doors

As a year-round venue for a variety of events, The Metro needs to have its own theatrical sound and lighting equipment, curtains, and staging. Intrepid Theatre has already raised $200,000 in cash and in-kind donations since the spring of 2005. To complete our technical purchases (including a new box offic system), improve the look of the entrance indoors and out, and say farewell to the blue plastic folding chairs once and for all - we need to raise $50,000 by the end of 2006, in time for Intrepid Theatre's 20th anniversary and The Metro's official grand opening.

This is where you come in.

In living up to our name over the past 20 years, Intrepid Theatre has become known for artistic fearlessness, bold leadership, and the ability to fashion and carry out cunning plans. When it came time to take on the Metro, we were packed and ready with boots on, waiting at base camp.

The Metro allows us to do more of what we do best - introducing pioneering performers from around the world to Victoria, rousing local artistic adventurers to strike out in daring new directions of their own, and cultivating in audiences our slightly unwholesome craving for the kind of addictive, thrill-inducing theatre that makes us feel really alive.

Donate to the campaign to outfit the Metro, and help Intrepid Theatre continue the search for beauty and mystery in dangerous and uncharted territory.

-Janet Munsil, Artistic Producer, and Ian Case, Executive Director, Intrepid Theatre
