Kate Rubin Theatre and Drama Studio Presents
SPRING
AWAKENING
by Frank Wederkind
Kate Rubin Drama Studio's Advanced performance
class stages one of German Theatre's most controversial contributions
to modern drama. Spring Awakening created an instant scandal when it
was published in 1891 and was revived recently as a hit Broadway rock
musical. As a Chicago critic remarked, the play is “a raw,
funny and achingly beautiful portrait of what it is to be a teenager.”
Matinees on Friday May 16 @ 12:45pm & Sunday
May 18 @ 1pm.
Evening shows on May 15,16,17 and 18 @ 8pm
Tickets are $10 for Students and Seniors, $13 for
adults. Groups rates for ten or more.

Antoine Feval
Chris Gibbs
Crime has a new enemy. It is 1896. Barnaby Gibbs, incurable optimist
and Sherlock Holmes fan, is checking on a friend's empty house when he
finds a man in the bedroom, dressed in black holding a bag of stolen
belongings. There is only one conclusion a reasonable man could come
to. Fortunately, Gibbs is not a reasonable man, and when the stranger
tells him he is actually the famous detective Antoine Feval, a new
crime-fighting duo is born.

Chile con Carne
Puente Theatre
An uncompromising look at a Chilean refugee family living in BC's lower
mainland in the 70's by acclaimed Vancouver playwright Carmen Aguirre,
in a moving production from Victoria's Puente Theatre. Seen through the
eyes of eight-year-old Manulita (played with great warmth by
Chilean-born, Victoria-based actress Romina Miranda), the struggles of
an immigrant child desperate to fit in are set beside the complex
political realities of Pinochet's regime and the culture of the Chilean
refugee community. Originally written in 1995, Chile con Carne has been
performed around the world.

Hamlet (solo)
Hope and Hell Theatre Company
Toronto based actor Raoul Bhaneja plays over 17 characters from Hamlet
in an exhilarating and accessible 95 minute solo adaptation directed by
Robert Ross Parker. While a mind-bendingly virtuosic challenge for a
single actor (which for Bhaneja seems effortless,) the real magic of
the show happens in the minds of the audience. Stripping
away all but the essentials - The Audience, The Actor, and The Text -
Bhaneja guides us like an ancient storyteller, allowing viewers to
construct the visual world of the play in their own minds. Hamlet
(solo) debuted at Theatre Passe Muraille and has toured across Canada,
as well as to New York and the UK.

UNO EXTRA DOC+TALK - On Wed May
28 we'll be screening the recent TV documentary about HAMLET {SOLO},

questions.
