Metamorphoses – A Play Based on the Myths of Ovid – Performed by the Kate Rubin Theatre & Drama Studio Advanced Teen Performance Company.

Written and originally directed by Mary Zimmerman, this Tony-award winning play asks the age old question—can we change?

Through the telling of certain myths and legends adapted to a contemporary audience; the actors and audience are engaged in exploring and witnessing our mortal dilmenas witnessed by the gods and goddesses. Do you value riches more than the life of your child? If a beggar showed up at your house looking for some food, would you be able to recognize the divine presence in him? Can you resist your base impulses and become something better than you are?

Exploring universal themes, “Metamorphoses” challenges us to look at our community, our ethics, and our nature as human beings. Written with a modern sensibility this play delights as well as challenges and has a wonderful combination of devises to tell the stories within it, including a large pool in the center of the stage and live music.

Kate Rubin Theatre Studio productions have always been held in high regard and this year’s production will not disapoint. Supported by the artistic vision of Carole Klemm’s set design and Katrina Kadoski’s live music accompanying the show; you will go home with a smile in your heart.

Join us at the Intrepid Studio 2-1609 Blanshard St. (At Fisgard)  May 8-12, 2013.

by Mika Laulainen

$10 reg / $8 student, senior or child

The Runaway is a show about love, loss, acceptance, and extra
terrestrials. Sam runs away from home to live in the forest in order
to convince passersby to help her save the world from an alien
abduction on the ten year anniversary of her sister’s death.  A
supposed stranger aims to help Sam’s campaign, but this stranger may
be more than she appears to be. Through narration, physical
storytelling, audience inclusion, and ukulele duets, Sam’s story takes
us on a journey from crazed activism to a place of real heart. This
show is a bittersweet slice of life with a dash of humour and a pinch
of song. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

The Runaway was originally created and produced as a 10 minute
playlet for Theatre SKAM’s Bike Ride 2012 and it was selected to
remount on Oct 20th as a part of Capital Arts Council event at
Victoria City Hall. It received rave reviews from professional
reporters at Culture Vulture Victoria and Capital City Style, as well
