Mondays and Tuesdays in the Metro

The Metro Studio is housed within the Victoria Conservatory of Music.  As part of our lease, they have exclusive access to the venue on Mondays and Tuesdays for classes.  There is some room around these bookings for our renters to start doing tech for their bookings which would normally start on a Wednesday.  That said, the priority on these days is the shaping of young musical minds.  If you want to work in the theatre on Mondays or Tuesdays, you will need to buy back that time from the Conservatory on top of our regular rental rates.  You must arrange this at least 3 months in advance and it will cost you $62.50 for a half day (where the classes happen at their usual time and you work around them) or $125 for a full day (the classes are moved entirely).

Scheduling

The busiest times of the year are generally April-mid June and September-December.  If you want to book your event during this time, it best to do so as far in advance as you can.  If your event spans a single day, you will have better luck on shorter notice.

We do not keep a calendar on the site showing available days because our schedule tends to change a lot.  If you are interested in looking at available dates, please call Megan Newton at 250-383-2663 and we will explore all the options.

Guesstimating your needs

When putting together bookings, we generally try to estimate as best we can how long your activities will take.  Overestimating a little is best so that when you run into issues with tech, or artists or whatever, you are not immediately over budget. HOWEVER, if your event runs long and you incur overtime, an audience member breaks something,  your drummer is late and the show goes long etc, the extra time and repair costs will be  reflected in your final invoice.  The amount that is built into our contracts  is our best guess at the time of signing.  If reality is radically different from the estimated requirements of time and manpower, your invoice will reflect this.

Breaks

Meal breaks are built into every rental over 5 hours in length and if breaks are not taken, the renter will be charged for the extra time.  For example, an 8 hour rental would be booked from 2pm-11pm to include a 1 hour unpaid meal break from 5-6pm.  If things are crazy busy, you may opt not to take a break, but remember that you will be invoiced for it.  It is up to you and your technician to time manage as best you can during your rental and stick to the schedule you drafted in the contract.
